Choosing the right pole for your GoPro

Choosing the right pole for your GoPro

Poles are by far the most popular accessory for GoPro users. Currently, there are too many poles to choose from in the market, so how do we know which one would fit us and our daily usage best? Some GoPro users require long poles constantly to fit the given video recording circumstance they are in however, there are others that might not be needing a GoPro pole too often. GoPro poles come in different lengths, sizes, weight, special features and even prices so we do have to take that into consideration before choosing a proper pole to purchase. Lets have a look at a few different poles available on to find out which pole suits your requirements best.

The HEROGEAR 125 monopod is a sturdy pole that can support GoPro cameras as well as heavier cameras such as DSLR cameras up to 3kgs. Rather than the twist lock system available on most other poles, the HEROGear 50” pole functions on a 3 part locking system for increased stability.

The HEROGear pole 125 can stretch up to 125cm and its retractable size is 46cm. This might not be ideal enough to keep it in an average size bag or handbag so that may be problem to some users. That said, its length will benefit a lot of users to not just capture footages of themselves, but their friends and family members from a higher point of view. This makes the HEROGear pole great for group shots, or what you would call a ‘wefie’.

The HEROGear Pole 125 also has a click lock head that allows your GoPro cameras to be positioned differently within a 180 degree range.

The Bazepod is one of our most versatile poles due to its ability to fit smartphones, digital cameras as well as GoPro cameras. It has an easy 4 twist locking system that enables users to have more variety of lengths when they’re shooting their videos. The twist locking system that it possesses also makes its convenient for quick adjustments. The Bazepod can stretch up to 75cm of length and has a retractable length of 25 cm which makes it easy for every day portability.  Weighing just over 100gms, it is also one of the most lightweight poles available in our selection.

The SP Gadgets 39” pole is also one of the most popular poles in the as it is the only pole that comes with a holder for your GoPro WiFi remote so you can take shots conveniently with a click of a button. However, do bear in mind that this pole is specifically for GoPro cameras only and not for other image taking devices.

The SP Gadget Pole is definitely made with quality in mind, with a good locking mechanism, good mounting head as well as a Dual-diameter EVA handgrip which is very comfortable for one’s hands as it also provides a firm grip for users when in use. However, it does not come cheap!

GoScope is an American branded pole designed specifically for GoPro Cameras only. Made to be durable, this pole is great for hiking, surfing, snorkelling, snowboarding and more of these outdoor activities as the materials used to manufacture it is durable in saltwater, freshwater and snow.

All GoScope poles has a unique locking mechanism (Turn lock mechanism) which requires the user to lock each section of the pole by turning the knob on each section. While this may seem more cumbersome than the twist lock system, it provides added stability and durability for the pole.

Unlike every other pole in the market that uses the screw mounting sytem, GoScope poles utilises a quick release mounting head for easy attachment and removal of your GoPro

The GoScope offers high quality built at reasonable pricing (Under RM200). The only difference between the GoScope Extreme and the GoScope Original pole offered in the GoScope range is that the GoScope Extreme folds down shorter to 17” (for more portability) while the GoScope Original folds down to 21”. Both extends to about 34” in length.

The GoPro 3-Way Pole is the latest pole by GoPro themselves, and is one of the most versatile poles in the market now. It can be used as a simple camera hand grip, an extension arm for your GoPro Hero3+ cameras, and also a tripod stand during shoots. The unique feature of the GoPro 3-way is its multi configurable, multi adjustable mounting system, allowing users to explore endless GoPro mounting possibilities. In our personal opinion, the slight downside to this gadget is that it is slightly less durable than poles like the SP Gadgets Pole or even the GoScope. If you’re using your poles for extreme sports like surfing and snowboarding you may want to look at investing in sturdier poles.
